Inter-School Chess Tournament
On Monday 16th May, Orwell Park hosted an inter-school chess tournament. Sixty four pupils from years four to seven tested their skills against one another. The players competed in teams of four and in every round of matches, each team faced a different opponent. In addition to the eight teams from Orwell Park, there were three teams from Gorseland Primary, three teams from Henley Primary and two teams from Sprites Academy. Players were awarded one point for a win or half a point for a draw and these points were then added to determine their team’s score. Team scores were then compared to find the match result and teams were awarded one point for a win or half a point for a draw. After eight rounds of matches the scores were tight with just two points separating the top four places. It would have been interesting had time allowed for additional rounds to have been played.
