Desert Rats Memorial Day

On Thursday 19th May the Prep School gathered with guests from the Desert Rats Association for our annual Memorial Service.

The Service commemorates the time in May 1944 when the Desert Rats moved to Orwell Park School, where the men camped in tents in the school grounds, and the waterproofing of the vehicles was completed before sailing from Felixstowe to Normandy, landing on Gold Beach on the 6th June 1944.

We were lucky to have Gunners from the F (Sphinx) Parachute Battery, Royal Horse Artillery spend the day with us, ahead of their deployment, and some classic military vehicles. The pupils had a fabulous day finding out more about the link the School has with the Desert Rats.
