We know that the exciting milestone of starting school comes with lots of questions so this event is designed to arm you with heaps of information. We will firstly introduce you to all the wonderful things your child will experience when you choose for them to join Orwell Park School Reception, secondly, we will provide some overall guidance on what you can do in preparing your child.

There will be the opportunity to hear from our Senior Management Team as well as other key members of the Lower Prep teaching staff and additionally there will be hands on demonstrations for you and your child to see how learning is approached in Reception and what is included in the curriculum. We will also explain how the Admissions Process works.

Come along to our Ready for Reception morning at Orwell Park Pre-Prep.

Starting school is an exciting milestone for children and we hope that the morning will provide overall guidance and answer any questions you may have about Reception for September 2024.  

We will start with talks from the Headmaster and teachers covering what we offer at Orwell Park, the Early Years curriculum and how you can help prepare your child for starting school. There will also be tours of the Pre-Prep so that you can see Reception and Years 1-2 on a typical school day.

The audience is invited to picnic in the park whilst being serenaded by enchanting music. As evening falls, Handmade Opera’s fabulous singers and orchestra perform two stunning comic operas on the floodlit stage with the Orwell Estuary at twilight providing an atmospheric backdrop. It is the chance to indulge in the perfect mix of alfresco eating and open-air music plus joining in with a family favourites singalong.

The first half will be the Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta ‘Cox and Box’, performed by professional opera company Handmade Opera, with the choruses sung by children from Years 3 to 6 and Chapel Choir.

The second half will be a range of British classics old and new, with great singalongs such as ‘Rule Britannia’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’, amongst other favourites. The School choirs will also sing a Beatles medley, arranged and conducted by Orwell Park’s Director of Music, Tom Stapleton.

Gates open at 4.45pm and close at 9.00pm. Guests are invited to bring their own picnics, rugs and seating. There will also be onsite food and drink stalls providing ‘fizz and finger food’.

In the event of rain, the event will move indoors.

A session to learn more about transitioning from Pre-Prep to the Middle School, come along to the North Hall for coffee followed by an introduction to the Prep School by Mr Brown in the Orangery.

Our Year 8 prefects will give you a tour of the Prep School, including the boarding house followed by discussions with the Head of Middle School, Helen Carrington, about a typical Year 3 timetable and to answer any questions you may have.
