Save Our Steinway!
We are raising £15,000 to save our beloved Steinway piano
This half term, Orwell Park School needs to raise £15,000 to safeguard the future of our beloved Steinway piano by purchasing it permanently. We would be incredibly grateful if you would help us. Read below to see how you can get involved, and what a difference your support would make.
Why get involved?
At Orwell Park, pupils of all ages and abilities are encouraged to develop a love of music and are supported in growing their skills, whether they are the youngest member of our Probationary Choir or a Year 8 music scholar. Under normal circumstances, twenty-two ensembles meet weekly, including wind band, jazz band and orchestra, and our Director of Music Mr O’Brien, alongside our fantastic Visiting Music Teachers, work tirelessly to support our pupils – whatever their experience or ability. The loss of our Steinway piano would be a huge blow to the quality of experience available to our pupils, and would have a devastating effect on music at the School. Historically, the piano has been on long-term loan to the School thanks to a generous benefactor. Now, we need to purchase the instrument in order to retain it on-site. If we cannot, we will not be in a position to buy an instrument of equivalent quality to the Steinway Model D. As such, we are desperately keen to retain the current instrument if we can as it is such an outstanding piece of craftsmanship and offers unparalleled opportunities for the pupils who play (and hear) it.
“Our son spent a large amount of time in the music department during his time at Orwell and as a music scholar had the pleasure of playing the Steinway in the Orangery on many occasions. The loss of such an instrument would indeed be a blow to the musical life of the school” (Anonymous donor)
