The annual Poetry Declamation Competition was held in the Orangery on Monday, 2nd December; once again, it was a triumph. The standard of the finalists was as high as ever and, for this first time, Shakespeare made an appearance, in a monologue by Archie Besley along with a fine Scottish accent, delivered by DJ Messenger, and even a self-penned War poem by overall Year 7 and 8 winner Sophia Kavyani. We were thrilled to be joined by an Old Orwellian, John Fisher Burns (1953-57), who adjudicated. John Fisher Burns is a British Journalist and winner of two Pulitzer Prizes. He was the London bureau chief for The New York Times, where he covered international issues until March 2015. We were delighted to welcome him back to School!
