We were delighted to welcome back to school, on Tuesday, Eleanor Shone (Old Orwellian, 1998-2004) who gave an Orangery Lecture entitled Peddling for People. Eleanor is now a Paediatric Registrar in a hospital in Glasgow having studied medicine at Southampton University. She and four colleagues, one of whom has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, decided this year to cycle from the UK to Greece (over 4,000 km) to raise money for Medecines Sans Frontieres and an MS charity.
On reaching Greece, Eleanor and her colleagues volunteered in a clinic catering for refugees. Eleanor spoke eloquently and movingly about the trip and experience working in the clinic and it was an absolute pleasure to listen to her talk and see the video diary she made of her trip.
