Organisation

“The overall quality of boarding is excellent.  The school comprehensively fulfils its boarding principle to develop well-rounded pupils who are confident in their abilities, respectful of their peers and willing to contribute to the school community.”

ISI, November 2014

“Boarding makes a highly productive contribution to the ethos of the school for both day and boarding pupils.”

Our Boarding Principle

  • To develop well-rounded pupils who are confident in their abilities, but respectful of their peers and willing to contribute to the school community. This will help prepare them to make the important change to senior boarding schools anywhere in the UK or beyond.
  • To build and develop a warm and comfortable ethos in the boarding areas so that pupils feel safe, secure and cared-for as individuals.

Many parents will increase the number of boarding nights as their children reach the top of the school.  A significant number of children will join as weekly boarders or as full boarders, some from the local area, some from abroad.

There is a spirit of fun and adventure in boarding helping children develop in self-confidence and independence which will serve them well whether they board at senior school or not.

Boarders at Orwell Park fall into one of the following categories, although interchange is common and welcome:

  • Full Boarders: who spend weekends at school; these are fully organised.
  • Weekly Boarders: who go home at weekends.
  • Flexi Boarders: who spend regular nights each week at school.
